2009 Shining STAR Award
The Shining STAR Award is given annually to the individual who has demonstrated exceptional and ongoing support of excellent education for all students in the San Juan Unified School District.
John Finegan received the first Shining STAR award in 2009 from the San Juan Education Foundation in recognition of his significant role in developing and nurturing the Foundation as a resource for excellent education in the San Juan Unified School District.
As a business and community leader and concerned parent, Mr. Finegan was not willing to accept limitations imposed by budget cuts and, as he always put it, the status quo. He felt all students deserve high caliber educational opportunities that will prepare them to compete in a global economy.
The San Juan Education Foundation thanks John Finegan for his role in founding the San Juan Education Foundation and for providing seed money and substantial ongoing financial support from the Finegan Foundation and the Morgan Family Foundation.
