BODE briseno, Bella Vista HS, SUSTAINABILITY SCHolarship Awardee

Bode Briseno is graduating from Bella Vista High School this spring, and plans to attend the University of San Diego in the fall. This scholarship will help fund his studies of biology to become a wildlife biologist. Growing up running on the American River Trails really pushed him to care for the environment and take an interest in biology. He plans on helping out plants, animals, and ecosystems that can't necessarily help themselves for a career one day.

eridanna garmashova, Rio americano hs, cal worthington memorial scholarship awardee

Eridanna Garmashova is a graduating senior from Rio Americano High School who will be majoring in Legal Studies and co-majoring in Global Business this fall. This scholarship will help Eridanna fund her education at the University of Miami. Eridanna hopes for there to be an increase of women in the legal field alongside her. Eridanna would like to thank her family and friends for their support and all of their help!

Kylie Huang, Mira Loma HS, Kurt lee memorial community service scholarship & Sacramento Women’s Chorus Performing Arts Scholarship awardee

Kylie Huang is graduating from Mira Loma High School. She will be attending UC Berkeley this fall and plans on majoring in Global Studies. This scholarship will help her pursue her goals of working on a global stage to uplift the needs of underserved communities.She would like to thank Mr. Stinson, Ms. Hall, Mrs. Pare, Mrs. Jacks, Dr. Frost, and Mr. Martinez for their immense support.

Sophia Lane, Mira LOMA HS, Sustainability Scholarship Awardee

Sophia Lane is graduating from Mira Loma High School and will be attending UC Santa Cruz in the fall. The Sustainability Scholarship will support Sophia's interest in pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies. A high school memory she will never forget is preparing her senior year homecoming float with her classmates late into the night. One day, Sophia hopes to help people around the world live in ecocentric societies.

Stephanie Manasyan, Del Campo HS, Superintendent’s student advisory council scholarship awardee

Stephanie Manasyan is graduating from Del Campo High School and will be attending UCLA in the fall. The SSAC Scholarship will support Stephanie’s interests in studying biology on a pre-medicine track while performing undergraduate research as an enrolled student. A high school memory Stephanie will never forget is earning the State Senate academic achievement award. Stephanie would like to thank her family, friends, and educators for helping her grow as a person academically and showing her endless support over the years. One day, Stephanie dreams of becoming a doctor or surgeon while concurrently discovering new treatment methods for chronic diseases and initiating clinical trials.

Jason Gomez Pirir is graduating from Mesa Verde High School and is planning on majoring in nursing at American River College this fall. Despite having no family that graduated from high school, they all supported him along his journey and hope to continue seeing him pursue this path. Wanting to help families with language barriers, he hopes he can make a difference in his community. He would also like to give a shoutout to his Calculus teacher Michael Peoples. Since the beginning of his senior year, he's always inspired his class to never give up on their dreams.

Kaylee McAllister, Mesa Verde HS, Sustainability scholarship and Cal worthington Memorial Scholarship awardee

Kaylee McAllister is graduating from Mesa Verde High School and has plans to major in political science at the University of California, Los Angeles this fall. This Scholarship will support Kaylee's interests in pursuing a career in law because she believes that she can be a strong advocate for someone in a time of need. Kaylee would like to thank her friends and her family for their tremendous support throughout her high school journey.

Ashwath Palavalli is graduating from Mira Loma High School and has plans to join UC Irvine in the fall. The SSAC Student Scholarship will support Ashwath's interest in studying mechanical engineering. A high school memory Ashwath will never forget is studying together with her friends before finals. Ashwath wants to thank his parents and especially his sister for their tremendous support. One day, Ashwath hopes to help solve a pressing world issue using his own creativity.

Jeshlyn Singh is graduating from Mesa Verde High School with plans to finish her bachelor’s in healthcare administration and then transfer to UC Davis for her Master’s Degree. This scholarship will help her to overcome the financial barriers that she faces in her educational career, along with supporting her interest in Healthcare Administration and being able to help out the community. Jeshlyn would like to thank all her family and friends for all their love and support. Also, all her AVID teachers without whom she wouldn't have made it this far.

caitlyn burnett, el camino hs, Superintendent’s student advisory council SCHOLARSHIP awardee

Caitlyn Burnett will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall and intends to major in environmental science. She will be using the money from this scholarship to support her future academic endeavors. Caitlyn would like to thank her mom, brothers, and best friends for their tremendous support throughout high school. Without them, she would not have achieved as much as she has. In the future, Caitlyn hopes to explore the world of environmental policy to make change back to a healthy planet.

Jasmine DOyle, Mesa Verde hS, Senior Scholarship Awardee

Jasmine Doyle will graduate from Mesa Verde High School this year and plans to attend San Diego State University next fall. This scholarship will support her financial needs during her time in college. One high school memory she will never forget is playing spoons with her AVID class, a game they were eventually banned from. She wants to thank all her teachers and coaches for their support throughout her high school career, and she hopes to inspire kids and teens just like they did her.

Cyrus Harshbarger will graduate from Casa Roble High School. and hopes to attend the University of Alabama in the fall. His plan is to major in metalurgy or business. Scholarships like this one will make his dream possible. Casa Roble created so many memories for him. He was a part of the aquatics and AVID family. These experiences helped him to believe in himself and always strive to do his best. He is extremely grateful for the support of his family, teachers and friends who have helped him succeed.

arahan lim, Mira Loma HS, RAN-Sukkawala Family Scholarship awardee

Arahan Lim is graduating this spring from Mira Loma High School. He plans on attending UC Berkeley, where he intends to major in Geology. With a strong interest in Geology, Arahan aims to apply his understanding of the Earth's physical processes to address sustainability challenges around the world. He is determined to explore remote locations and engage in research to mitigate the impact of climate change, particularly in polar regions. Arahan would like to thank his family and friends for inspiring him to be who he is today.

sarina naran, rio americano hs, superintendent’s student advisory council scholarship awardee

Surina Naran is graduating from Rio Americano High School in June of 2023 and moving to Stanford University for her undergraduate education. The SSAC scholarship will support Surina's interests in Public Policy, Political Science, and International Relations. She is particularly interested in crafting legislation about AI, VR, Cybersecurity, and Data Privacy. This summer, she will be continuing her interests in legislation by doing an internship with Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, spending time with her friends, taking day trips around California, and reading. She thanks Nina Seibel, Lori Vine, and all others she's worked with at the district for their support.

Sabrina Ni is graduating from Mesa Verde High School and has plans to attend San Diego State University in the fall. This scholarship will support her interest in studying Business Administration. A high school memory Sabrina will never forget is her experience in Track & Field along with wrestling. It was full of enjoyable moments and experiences. Sabrina would like to thank her friends, parents, teachers, and specifically Mrs. Peoples for their immense support. One day, Sabrina hopes to pursue a career that makes her happy and successful.

Abigail Rose is graduating from Mesa Verde High School with plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall majoring in Public Health. Helping others has always been her calling and she ultimately wants to become a pediatric physician assistant. She is thankful for all of her friends and family, but most importantly her mom whom she got to watch walk the stage this May graduating with her bachelor's degree. With her guidance, Abigail knows she will go on to do amazing things.

Alaysha Tausinga, Mesa Verde HS, Michael Gebhardt Athletic Scholarship

Alaysha Tausinga is graduating from Mesa Verde High School and has plans to attend Sacramento State University in the fall. This scholarship will support Alaysha's interest in studying psychology. She'd like to thank her amazing parents for supporting her and providing for she and her siblings. She would also like to thank my junior year Avid teacher Nicole Guccini and my best friend Sofia Ruelas. Sofia and Ms. Guccini never gave up on me when others did.

brooklyn wagner, san juan hs, cal worthington memorial scholarship awardee

Brooklyn Wagner is a graduating senior from San Juan High School with the class of 2023. She will be attending Sacramento State University as an Computer Science and Engineering major, as well as a double major in Food Chemistry. She hopes to learn about the chemical makeup and design of food science. She is interested in possibly joining the Sac State band, as she am a bassist and clarinet player. She’d like to thank the San Juan Education Foundation and the Cal Worthington Memorial Scholarship committee.”

janelle Choi, Mira loma hs, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Scholarship awardee

Janelle Choi is graduating from Mira Loma High School and will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall. The SSAC Student Scholarship will support Janelle’s interest in studying the intersection between environmental science and human health. One of Janelle’s favorite high school memories has been exploring the beauty of nature at Bodega Bay with her classmates at the end of her senior year. Janelle would like to thank her mom, dad, and two sisters Grace and Jianna for their immeasurable patience and care throughout high school. One day, Janelle hopes to teach high school students about the environment and help future generations realize the importance of conservation.

Julian Fonseca, Encina Prep HS, Cal Worthington memorial Scholarship Awardee

Julian Fonseca will graduate from Encina Preparatory High in 2023 and plans to attend Uc Davis. Julian plans to study Business Economics and minor in Business Entreperneurship. He thanks all his teachers, my counselor Mr. Milan, and his college advisor Ms. Sonia for helping pursue his dreams and guiding him through the toughest year of his highschool experience. He also says thank you to his family as well for pushing him so hard.

CJ Herman, El Camino HS, Sacramento Women’s Chorus Performing Arts Scholarship Awardee

CJ Herman is graduating from El Camino High School and is attending Cal Poly Humboldt in the fall to major in Environmental Science and Management. This scholarship will support her interest in becoming a mycologist. A high school experience CJ won't forget is her time on the water polo team, and the friends she made. CJ wants to thank Mr. Vanderbout, Ms. Sansone, and her coaches and friends that inspired her to try new things and be a leader. In the future, CJ hopes to travel the world spreading climate awareness and maybe write a book.

Matt Kozachenko is graduating from Mesa Verde High School and plans on attending the University Of California, Sacramento to major in Biochemistry. At this time he would like to thank his amazing friends, family, and teachers for helping him get this far.

Brian Lin is graduating from Bella Vista High School. He will majori in mechanical engineering and minor in designs. This scholarship will help him pursue a greater education in hopes to one day be a company owner, inventor, and philanthropist. For now, he'd like to thank all the teachers, friends, and family who have guided him through his life.

titilope Olotu, mira loma HS, cal worthington memorial scholarship

Titilope Olotu is a Nigerian immigrant who arrived in the US in 2015. She is an advocate for the San Juan Unified District, and the founder of the Veteran Volunteering Club in collaboration with American Legion Auxiliary. She also volunteers with HOSA, Red Cross, UNICEF, the Food Bank, and more. She is an activities director at Midtown Elderly Home, a teacher intern, a researcher, and a food worker. She advocates against underrepresentation and societal shame against women. She is grateful for this scholarship that provides her the honor to include it in her portfolio for the rest of her life.

sofia ruelas, mesa verde hs, Senior Scholarship awardee

Sofia Ruelas will graduate from Mesa Verde High School and plans to attend UC Davis majoring in animal science or UC Merced majoring in biological sciences. This scholarship will help her with her future financial needs in college. She appreciated being a part of the AVID program as it helped her all throughout high school and created the post-high school journey she is now looking forward to.

ani sivatjian, del campo hs, cal worthington memorial scholarship & Superintendent Student Advisory Council Scholarship awardee

Ani Sivatjian is a graduating senior from Del Campo High School who will go on to major in Aerospace Engineering at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. This scholarship will help fund Ani's journey towards the astro sector of aerospace engineering. Her dream is to one day send someone to space in a rocket she helped build or design. She would like to thank her parents, aunt, uncle, and grandma for the support and encouragement she received from them throughout her life.

wade tinson, mesa verde HS, Senior SCholarship Awardee

Wade Tinson is graduating from Mesa Verde High School this spring, and plans to attend Sacramento State University in the fall. This scholarship will help fund his goal of becoming a nurse. Growing up listening to his mother's stories of people she's helped has inspired him to do the same. He's already tried his best to help out his community through his extensive community service, and he plans to work with either children or the elderly.

iyanna williams, San Juan HS, superintendent STUDENT advisory council scholarship awardee

Iyanna Williams is a San Juan High School graduate and in the fall she will leave Sacramento to pursue a Biology degree at UCLA. The 2023 Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Scholarship will support Iyanna in her dream of working in genetics to aid the preventative care industry (whether through becoming a doctor or researcher). Iyanna wants to thank her family and friends for supporting her along with Mrs. Knight and the 2023 AVID class who has been there for her throughout high school. She wants everyone to know, “I am a young black woman who will give back to the world and let them see what I can do. I have persevered through all of life's challenges, and I will continue to persevere through what my next stage offers.”
