The Sustainability Scholarship
Presented by Republic Services and the City of Citrus Heights
The City of Citrus Heights and Republic Services, a national recycling firm serving over 2,700 municipalities and communities nationwide, are partnering to offer annual scholarships to three graduating high school seniors who will be pursuing college degrees with an environmental/sustainability focus.
These scholarships will be administered by the San Juan Education Foundation. To be eligible, graduating seniors must live in the City of Citrus Heights and be attending a school in the San Juan Unified School District. Selected students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
To apply for this scholarship, eligible seniors must complete an online application form explaining in 1,000 words or less why he or she wants to pursue a career in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Environmental Justice, Sustainability or studies with an environmental/sustainability focus.
Using their own personal experiences, as well as academic and personal study, eligible seniors should describe how they developed a passion for any or all of these fields and how they hope the pursuit of environmental/sustainable studies will lead to careers that will allow them to improve the planet and their community.
Student must also submit proof of college acceptance notification.
A selection committee, comprised of a representative from Republic Services, the City of Citrus Heights, and San Juan Education Foundation, will review and select scholarship recipients, taking into account both merit and financial need.
