LISa Borrego

Senior Director for the California Family and Community Engagement Initiative, Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation

Lisa Borrego has over 25 years of experience in education and community engagement. She has coordinated several community and statewide coalitions that include collaborations with school districts, county offices of education, non-profits, law enforcement, county agencies, and faith-based and private organizations to support educational initiatives. Lisa successfully implemented several youth development, education, health, and human service projects that led to multiple funding opportunities for communities throughout California. 

Her work with the California State PTA provided her the opportunity to lead and scale the School Smarts family engagement program that focused on building leadership skills amongst diverse groups of parents to increase student success.  She also led the Family and Community Engagement Office as the Director of Family Engagement and Community Partnerships in San Juan Unified School District supporting over 38,000 students in 68 schools. 

Her local and statewide experience led her to the California Department of Education as their first Director of Family Engagement and then as the Director of the Whole Child Division where she was committed to shining a light and elevating the work of practitioners all over the state. Her current position is as Senior Director for the California Family and Community Engagement initiative at the Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation.

Lisa received her B.A. Degree from the University of California at Davis in Sociology and her M.A. from California State University, Sacramento in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Organizations.
